June 21, 2016: Warner Bros. Reveals Official "Justice League" Synopsis, Logo, and More

Posted by Neil Cole

The "big news" that was teased yesterday in regard to the "Justice League" movie has been revealed and features - among other things - the film's official logo, confirmation of the primary villain, first look at the Batmobile on set, and the following official synopsis:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

During the course of a visit to the set of "Justice League" by CBR, it was confirmed that the film's primary villain will not be Darkseid but his uncle and military General of Apokolips, Steppenwolf who first appeared in "New Gods #7" by legendary comic book artist/writer Jack Kirby.

The character was teased in a deleted scene from "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" - which will be included on the upcoming Ultimate Edition Blu-ray - in which he appears to Lex Luthor on the crashed Kryptonian ship surrounded by several boom tubes before vanishing

When asked if the role of Steppenwolf had been cast, producer Deborah Snyder stated, "We're not completely closed. We're close."

Also revealed during CBR's set visit was actor Willem Dafoe's role in the film which will be that of DC Comics character Vulko who is a loyal servant of Aquaman and an Atlantean ally of the Justice League.

The character first appeared in 1967 and was created by Bob Haney and Howard Purcell. He played a major role in Aquaman's origin and in the 2012-2013 "Throne of Atlantis" in which he helped Arthur Curry/Aquaman reclaim his Atlantian birthright.

The following first look at a slightly upgraded and cleaner Batmobile on set was also revealed:

In addition to the Batmobile, a large airship called the "Flying Fox" which is designed for JLA team travel and can house the Batmobile inside will be introduced in the film along with a one-person Batman-created tech vehicle called the "Nightcrawler" that will have multiple legs and is designed to maneuver through tight spaces.

In regard to the Dark Knight, actor Ben Affleck also shared some insight into how his portrayal of Batman in the new film will be more hopeful and not be as dark as the character was treated in "BvS":

"He's a little bit more sardonic, a little more irony," Affleck told reporters. "He's a little more of a man on a mission this time. As opposed to, he was so full of anger because of what happened at the Black Zero Event. That sort of rage that possessed him. And now he's on a mission to get this group together; to constitute this League. But more of that sort of Bruce Wayne, wry, ironic gallows humor comes out. He's not like a 'haha' jokey, but that sort of stuff comes out a little bit. A bit of his darker humor is present."

"Justice League" is Warner Bros.' next chapter in their line-up of DC Comics based films and continues the storyline established in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" which recently completed in theatrical run with a worldwide box office total of $872.7 million.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the film has been confirmed to now be a standalone feature as opposed to previously being planned as a two-part release. It will mark the big screen debut of the Justice League, featuring an all-star lineup: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.

Written by Academy Award-winner Chris Terrio, "Justice League" is scheduled for release on November 17th, 2017.
