December 2, 2014: Actress Claire Holt in Contention for Supergirl Role

Actress Claire Holt is reportedly among the contenders testing for the lead role of Supergirl in CBS's upcoming TV series adaptation of the iconic comic-book character.

Holt currently stars as Rebekah on the CW series "The Vampire Diaries" as well as its offshoot, "The Originals" and will co-star alongside David Duchovny in NBC's upcoming series "Aquarius."

"Supergirl" will tell the story of Kara Zor-El, who was born on the planet Krypton, but escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin Superman. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

"Arrow" and "Flash" executive producer Greg Berlanti and "New Normal's" Ali Adler will write and executive-produce with Sarah Schechter.

"Supergirl" will be the fifth series based on a DC Comics character currently airing on television including "Gotham" (FOX), "The Flash" (CW Network), "Arrow" (CW Network), and "Constantine" (NBC).
