January 16, 2014: Hutchinson, KS Planning Four-Day Smallville Festival

Posted by Neil Cole

Hutchinson, Kansas officially renamed itself Smallville for one day in 2013 and is now considering a stronger push to promote its claim of being the hometown of Superman's alter ego, Clark Kent.

The City Council was recently asked by organizer Christopher Wietrick (who spearheaded last year's Smallville event) to proclaim the town as Smallville for a four-day festival this year.

The larger festival would coincide with a planned Smallville Comic-Con on June 21st and 22nd at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

Hutchinson Mayor Bob Bush is supportive of the longer festival and stated that he didn't think anyone would object to proclaiming Hutchinson as Smallville for June 19th - 22nd.

Superman's hometown has often been depicted as being somewhere in Kansas, although no specific city was ever named. The topic is always grounds for debate among Superman fans who claim the iconic superhero was born in several different states.
