February 13, 2013: Superman Trilogy May Postpone Justice League Film
by Neil A. Cole
Warner Bros. attempts at bringing the Justice League to the silver screen may be postponed by a trilogy of Superman films and a reboot of the Batman film franchise.
Recently, the likelyhood of a Justice League film being made was rumored to rest on the success of Zack Snyder's highly anticipated blockbuster, "Man of Steel." However, Batman-On-Film has received word from a close source that this rumor may just be the tip of the iceberg.
"Don't worry about the Batman [film] franchise... it's [Warner Bros.'] most valuable [DC Comics-based] asset... I believe that they are now looking at introducing [the rebooted] Batman in a solo film, though that will likely take place later than they initially had planned. They are extremely worried how a [Batman film franchise] would be affected if Justice League bombs…and rightfully so."
"If Superman is huge, then they've bought themselves some time and will have a franchise to hang their hat on for seven, eight years. The need for Batman won't be as great, and [the reboot] of that franchise can wait until the Superman trilogy is done."
This latest news has not been confirmed or denied by Warner Bros. and should be treated as strictly rumor for now.
A Justice League movie has been in development for many years with director George Miller ("Mad Max", "Happy Feet") attempting to develop the film in 2007 with a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney. It was set to star D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, Adam Brody as Barry Allen/The Flash, rapper Common as John Stewart/Green Lantern, Australian model Megan Gale as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
Warner Bros. ultimately shut down the project in 2008 citing a lack of tax breaks and the writer's strike as the main reasons it pulled the plug.
