March 9, 2015: Malina Weissman Cast as Young Supergirl

CBS has cast actress Malina Weissman in the role of a young Supergirl/Kara in the network's upcoming TV series based on the iconic superhero.

Weissman recently starred as a young April O'Neal in the 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot and her casting in "Supergirl" confirms that the series will feature flashbacks of Kara's childhood.

In addition to Weissman, the series will star Melissa Benoist in the lead role of Supergirl/Kara, Laura Benanti as Kara's birth mother Alura Zor-El, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Kara's foster sister Alexandra "Alex" Danvers, Jeremy Jordan in the role of Winslow "Winn" Schott (aka Toyman), David Harewood as the villainous Hank Henshaw, Calista Flockhart as Catherine "Cat" Grant, and Faran Tahir as the Commander - an alien military expert leading the forces aligned against Supergirl.

The series will also feature guest-starring roles from former Superman and Supergirl actors Dean Cain and Helen Slater.

"Supergirl" will focus on Kara Zor-El who, born on the planet Krypton, escaped amid its destruction years ago. And since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

The series will be executively-produced & written by "Arrow" and "Flash" executive producer Greg Berlanti and "New Normal's" Ali Adler along with Sarah Schechter.
