March 17, 2011: Kevin Costner Joins Superman Cast
Actor Kevin Costner has now joined the growing cast of Zack Snyder's Superman reboot and will portray the Man of Steel's adoptive father, Jonathan Kent.
"Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman," said Snyder. "Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time."
The role has been portrayed by such actors as Glenn Ford in Richard Donner's "Superman: The Movie" and more recently by John Schneider in the popular "Smallville" tv series which will end it's ten year run in May.
Costner is now the third actor to be officially signed to the film following the announcement of Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel and Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Superman's adopted Earth mother.
Costner most recently starred in "The Company Men" with Ben Affleck and Tommy Lee Jones.
