by Neil Cole

Capstone Publishing has released a new batch of young adult titles to their DC Comics series featuring such characters as Superman, Supergirl, Krypto, and the Justice League.

Four of the new titles feature a "You Choose" format in which each book has twelve possible endings based on the decisions of the reader. The format is very similar to that of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" children's book series from the 80's and 90's

Each book in this series focuses on the Man of Steel battling one of his notorious enemies such as Lex Luthor, Bizarro, Apokolips, or Metallo and includes the titles "Superman Day Disaster," "Apokolips Invasion," "Metropolis Mayhem," and "Metallo Attacks!".

Falling under the "Justice League" banner is a series of new titles aimed at young fans of the iconic team of superheroes as the battle such villains as The Joker & Harley Quinn, Starro, Darkseid, Amazo, and Bizarro.

The books feature artwork very similar to that of the Justice League animated series from the late-90's and include such titles as "The Joker and Harley Quinn's Justice League Jailhouse," "Bizarro and the Doppelgängers of Doom," "Amazo and the Planetary Reboot," "Starro and the Cyberspore," and "Darkseid and the Fires of Apokolips".

A hilarious new title for the young adult crowd is "DC Super Heroes: World's Greatest Jokes" which contains hundreds of laugh-out-loud jokes featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and other DC Super Heroes. All 400+ kid-approved jokes are showcased alongside full-color artwork of various superhero characters.

Three new stand-alone titles are primarily for readers aged 4-7 and feature "Superman Is a Good Citizen" in which the Man of Steel works to make Metropolis a better community; "Sweet Dreams, Supergirl" where a young Supergirl fan attempts to catch some Z's while Supergirl tracks down an elusive enemy; and "Good Morning, Superman" featuring a young boy who, when morning comes, must prepare for his day faster than a speeding bullet.

Each of these wonderful titles contain large print to help with reading skills and full page illustrations featuring amazing artwork by such talented artists as Omar Lozano and Otis Frampton.

Lastly is Capstone's newest entry to their "DC Super-Pets!" series featuring "Krypto: The Origin of Superman's Dog" which tells the story of how Krypto the Super-Dog became the Man of Steel's best friend set against a backdrop of illustrations by Eisner Award-winning cartoonist, Art Baltazar.

Capstone's latest additions to their DC Comics Young Adult library are absolutely outstanding and continue the publisher's tradition of helping children develop a love of reading and learning, no matter their ability level.

While each title is primarily targeted at the young adult audience, DC fans of all ages will get a delight out of reading these wonderful stories and adding them to their home library of DC Comics publications.

Each title ranges in price from $4.95 - $15.95 (USD) and is currently available for purchase at various bookseller locations or directly through Capstone.
