A vintage 1938 copy of "Action Comics #1" featuring the debut appearance of Superman recently sold at auction for $573,600 this past Thursday, May 10th in Chicago.
Heritage Auctions reports that the highly sought after comic was graded 4.0 out of 10 by the Certified Guaranty Company - CGC Comics and sold for roughly $80,000 less than its estimated value of $650,000.
In 2014, another original copy of "Action Comics #1" rated at 9.0 out of 10 and in "pristine" condition sold for $3,207,852 in an online eBay auction.
A rare original copy of Batman #1 (April 25, 1940) featuring the first appearances of both the Joker and Catwoman also sold for $227,050.
Taking home the top sales price at the auction was fantasy and science fiction artist Frank Frazetta's "Death Dealer 6" painting which sold for $1,792,500; nearly three times it's estimated price of $600,000.
