My wife Helen and I recently had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles, CA to attend “The Adventures Continue” event orchestrated by Jim Nolt and Larry Ward which celebrates the classic “Adventures of Superman” television series. This event was held on Saturday, June 30th at the Renaissance Hotel near the LAX airport.
The event was a tribute to the late Noel Neil and Jack Larson and started with a video presentation put together & narrated by Brad Shey who jokingly stated that we loved this show when we were kids and still love it now that we are old and grey.
Many speakers came to reminisce about their friendships with Noel and Jack including Jim Nolt, Pam Munter, Rennie Chamberlain, Larry Ward, Marty Pasko, Alan Howard, Gary Grossman, Larry Blankley, and Vincent Roth.
The most important part of this event for me was seeing old friends and getting reacquainted with fellow “Super Friends” from the Metropolis, IL Superman Celebration including Stephanie Perrin, Jeffrey Breslauer, Larry & Shelia Blankley, Steven Kirk, Greg & Sandy Moffett and Larry Ward.
When the event started, other friends whom we have known for years arrived including Scott Cranford who was the official Superman of the annual Superman Celebration from 2001 – 2008 and actress Beverly Washburn who starred in “Superman and the Mole Men” 67 years ago and told me she is excited to still be a involved with the history of the show.
I was also excited to see Gary Grossman who I met four years ago and to finally meet Paul Peterson in person. Paul and I have been friends on Facebook for many years and it was such a pleasure for me and Helen to talk to him.
The biggest pleasure came for me and Helen when we looked down the hall and saw actor Tony Dow (Wally Cleaver – “Leave it to Beaver”) walking towards the event. I grabbed Helen and said “Let's go talk with him.”
All around the Banquet Hall were various pieces of memorabilia of Noel Neil provided by Larry Ward as well as a table of photos and documents that came from Jack Larson's estate which were provided by Brad Shey.
At the end of the presentation, everyone went to the lobby of the hotel to talk and Helen & I had the pleasure of having dinner with Jeffrey Breslauer and his girlfriend Naomi Conners, Greg and Sandy Moffett, and Stephanie Perrin.
On Sunday morning, we left Los Angeles and arrived back home at 11:20pm. I turned on the TV to see what was recorded on the DVR and the “Adventures of Superman” episode “The Stolen Elephant” was on which starred Greg Moffett.
I texted Greg to tell him and he replied, “You have my deepest sympathy. You know you would rather watch Mole Men.”
Thank you so very much Jim Nolt and Larry Ward for putting together another memorable get together.
