The Library of Congress in Washington, DC will host a screening of "Superman: The Movie" on Thursday, August 9th beginning at 8:30PM (EST) as part of the second annual "LOC Summer Movies on the Lawn" outdoor film festival.
An alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero. "Superman" was added to the National Film Registry in 2017.
The screening will take place on the north lawn of the Jefferson Building (located at 10 First Street, SE) which provides a comfortable space for people to watch the 1978 blockbuster film. Moviegoers are welcome to bring picnics.
"The National Film Registry is full of wonderful feature-length films and this is your chance to see them again - or for the first time - on the big screen. We're excited to be able to share this part of the Library's collection with you all summer long," said Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. "Grab a blanket and some popcorn and come join us on the lawn!"
Tickets for the screenings are now available, but not required, on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information and to secure tickets, visit the event-ticketing site at EventBrite.com.
