August 10, 2015: "Supergirl" Adds Red Tornado and Non; Superman Regulated to Background

The upcoming CBS television series "Supergirl" will feature the addition of a few more characters in the form of Red Tornado, the Kryptonian villain Non, and Lois Lane's father, General Sam Lane.
The announcement was made earlier today during the Television Critics Association "Supergirl" press panel at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA along with the debut of another new teaser which is featured below.
This latest line-up joins an ever growing DC Comics roster which currently features the alien criminal Vartox (Owain Yeoman), Reactron (Chris Browning), billionaire Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli), and the immortal Vandal Savage ( Casper Crump).
It was also revealed that while Superman will occupy the same universe as his cousin, he will be regulated to more of a background role and not a featured character on the series.
"He will be a factor in her life but you won't see him exactly on-screen," stated producer and DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns. "He's gonna be more in the background, but he does play a part in her evolution of becoming a superhero."
"We're very excited that this series is very much the adventures of Supergirl," added producer Ali Adler. "And as much as we respect the history of Superman, it's very much her point of view."
As for tieing into other DC Comics television series such as The CW's Arrow and The Flash, CBS president Nina Tassler ruled out any direct crossovers at this time.
"Supergirl" debuts on October 26th at 8:30PM on CBS before moving to its regular 8:00PM timeslot on November 2nd.
