October 5, 2010: Zack Snyder Talks Superman Reboot

MTV News spoke with Zack Snyder shortly after it was announced that he would be directing the next Superman movie. Here's an excerpt from the article:

"It is pretty awesome," Snyder said. "I'm really excited, and I feel like it's an amazing opportunity."

Regarding his big meeting with "Superman" producers Nolan and Emma Thomas, Snyder said the discussion was more about their love for the character, versus concrete plans for the film's reboot.

"It was really just talking about, in really sort of civilized and fun terms, who [Superman] was to us and what he could be," he explained. "I think that those conversations felt free from the pressure of an 'audition' and felt more just talking about a character that we both liked. It was really, at that point, I was content if I was the one picked or not, that I had had a great visit. From a creative and fan point of view, I was satisfied, and that was cool."

"All I'll say is that those guys — Chris and David — have created an amazing story," he enthused. "The 'Why [remake] Superman?' is definitely being looked at with care, that's all I could hope for as a director.

"Everyone always says, 'Why Superman? Why is he relevant? Who is he now?' " Snyder added. "I think those guys have done an amazing job with that. That's the real trick."

Snyder said he hopes Nolan will be heavily involved in the filmmaking process. "I have a lot of respect for him," he said. "I would think that he would be."

And when might production begin? Six months? Six years? "No, not six years, but soon," he said. "Basically, I'm going to start working on it when I'm done with 'Sucker Punch.' "

Snyder also went on to say that it is currently unknown who the primary villian will be (speculation points to General Zod) or what actor may don the classic costume but, in a quote from Variety, it will most likey not be Brandon Routh.
