Animated DC Universe cartoon series for a new generation starring ROBIN, AQUALAD, KID FLASH, SUPERBOY, MISS MARTIAN and ARTEMIS . Combined these six teenage heroes are YOUNG JUSTICE the JUSTICE LEAGUE’s secret weapon against the forces of evil. Based out of THE CAVE, the teen heroes will take on under-the-radar missions that would be impossible for the League proper (with its incandescent star-power) to handle covertly. In addition, these kids are in constant training to take their place alongside the great heroes. RED TORNADO will be their supervisor; BLACK CANARY will be in charge of their training, and BATMAN will hand out their assignments. And of course, Young Justice will push their missions, often turning a simple assignment from Batman into something much larger, often discovering that what they’ve been tasked to do is just the tip of the iceberg.
Review
"Young Justice" is truly a fantastic series that breathes new life into the animated realm of the DC Universe, a genre which has been feeling a bit stale in the time period following the cancellation of "Justice League Unlimited".
The season 1/volume 2 DVD features action that is excellently choreographed and maintains a reality that surpasses most current blockbusters. Fights are unique and have a weight and reality to them while feeling fresh and done in a way that hasn't been seen before in any prior series.
As opposed the the season 1/volume 1 DVD in this series, volume 2 features stories that are drawn more from the comics and are given a dimension of reality that finds them feeling more adult in nature. The characters are better defined and more unique while character development is well balanced, giving viewers a bit of new insight each episode as well as having some building love interests just to keep things fun.
The DVD features the following four episodes:
Schooled
The lack of relationship and interaction with Superman angers Superboy, leading him to lose control of his anger and decline training with Black Canary. When Young Justice encounters an opponent that even their Justice League superiors have experienced difficulty in defeating, will Superboy decide to help the team?
Infiltrator
Green Arrow's niece, Artemis, joins Young Justice and must save a bright young scientist from the League of Shadows.
Denial
Young Justice investigates the disappearance of Kent Nelson, the former Dr. Fate. Meanwhile, Kid Flash, who doesn't believe in magic, must defeat Abra Kadabra and Klarion the Witch Boy to obtain the Helmet of Fate.
Downtime
After a team mission goes badly, Aqualad returns to Atlantis to reconsider his role as team leader, or whether he should pursue personal interests. However, he soon discovers that there is no escaping his destiny.
Other than these four episodes of the hit animated series, no bonus material or anything more is offerred on this DVD release. Collectors might have the option of picking up a more comprehensive box set of the series in the future but for now, the four-episode DVD is the only way to add the latest chapter of "Young Justice" to your collection.
All in all, "Young Justice - Season 1/Volume 2" offers up four great episodes that offer more insight into the lives and adventures of this young team of budding superheroes. This is one release you will defintely want to add to your DVD/Blu-ray collection.
