Last nights premiere of the new CBS Television series "Supergirl" soared in the Nielsen ratings with a 3.2 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 and an estimated audience of 12.9 million viewers overall from 8:30PM to 9:30PM.
According to Variety, "Supergirl" had a strong lead-in from the season 9/episode 6 premiere of "The Big Bang Theory" and managed to retain 76% of the young-adult audience from the popular comedy series.
Monday's premiere also silenced many nay-sayers and, overall, critics have been generally supportive of the series with it garnering the highest Metacritic score among new broadcast dramas debuting this Fall.
However, it remains to be seen if "Supergirl" can continue to generate its premiere ratings next week when the series moves to its regular time period of 8:00-9:00 PM and does not have a lead-in from television's No. 1 comedy.
