A new mural featuring the iconic cover of "Action Comics No. 1" will soon greet visitors to the historic downtown district of Superman's official hometown of Metropolis, IL.
The mural, which was recently approved by Warner Brothers, will be featured on the side wall of the Super Museum facing the world famous 15-foot-tall Superman Statue and will be painted by Museum curators Morgan & Adam Siebert.
"DC/Warner Brothers requested for us to paint a mural sample and I painted all yesterday afternoon till midnight," stated Morgan Siebert, Super Museum curator. "I just finished it this morning and submitted it and I received a very quick approval!!! This is what I've wanted to do for the past 8 years... I'm so so so happy!"
This will actually be the second time a mural of the iconic comic book cover has been featured in Metropolis, IL with an earlier one - painted by Lynn Becker and Morgan's father and Super Museum founder, Jim Hambrick in 1993 - having been located on the side wall of a downtown Ferry Street business until it was sadly the building was destroyed by a tornado in 2003.
In addition to the "Action Comics No. 1" mural, visitors to Metropolis can also check out an array of other murals around town including a series of six featuring the history of the city, a "Greetings From Metropolis" mural that was painted by the Sieberts in 2023, and a "Love From Metropolis" mural that was painted by artist Tommy and April Reed and Craig Rhodes in 2019.
The Sieberts expect to start working on the new mural within the coming months so that it is completed in time for the annual Superman Celebration which takes place June 7th - 9th, 2024.
