Iconic actor and comedian Gilbert Gottfried has passed away at the age of 67.
"We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness," stated Gottfried's family on his official Twitter account Tuesday. "In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children."
"Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor. Love, the Gottfried family," they added.
In addition to his longtime career as a standup comic, Gottfried was known for memorable acting roles in such films as "Look Who's Talking Too," "Problem Child," and "Beverly Hills Cop II". He was also the focus of the 2017 documentary film Gilbert, about his prolific life and career.
One of his most famous roles was as the voice of villain Jafar's wisecracking parrot, Iago in the animated Disney classic, "Aladdin" and Superman fans will remember him for his portrayal as the voice of DC Comics villain Mr. Mxyzptlk in the "Superman: The Animated Series" episodes, "Mxyzpixilated" and "Little Big Head Man".
Gottfried is survived by his wife Dara, 14-year-old daughter Lily, 12-year-old son Max, sister Karen and nephew Graham.
