Actress Milly Alcock has officially landed the coveted role of Supergirl in the DC Cinematic Universe and will star as the iconic DC Comics superhero in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow".

Deadline first broke the news earlier today that the Australian-born actress had been cast in role after beating out both Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly who were also in contention for the part.

Alcock is best known for her role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO "Game of Thrones" spinoff series "House of the Dragon". She has also starred in such Australian television series as "Upright", "The Gloaming", and "Reckoning".

Supergirl was most recently portrayed on the big screen by actress Sasha Calle in "The Flash" and by actress Melissa Benoist on the hit CW television series, "Supergirl". In the 1984 film "Supergirl The Movie", the character was played by actress Helen Slater and would not be featured in live media again until her appearance in the "Smallville" television series where she was portrayed by actress Laura Vandervoort.

At this time, a director has yet to be attached to "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" but a script is being written by actress and playwright Ana Nogueira. It also remains to be confirmed whether Alcock will debut as Supergirl in "Superman: Legacy" alongside actor David Corenswet in the title role.
