Golden Age Superheroes Mural Graces Wall in Maryville, TN
An awe-inspiring mural featuring various DC Comics Superhero characters as they appeared during the Golden Age of comic books is featured along a retaining wall in Maryville, TN.
Painted in 2017 by Florida artist Wesley Stout, the mural features such iconic characters as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash as well as lesser known Golden Age characters including The Spectre, Mary Marvel, and the original Sandman, Wesley Dodds.
The mural stretches close to half a city block and is located in the downtown area of the city in front of The Golden Age, 1942 comic book store at the intersection of Court and High streets. Owners of the store, David and Stephanie Laney received approval from Maryville for the mural to be painted following several months of of planning, working and going back and forth with the city.
In addition to the retaining wall mural, another Golden Age inspired mural was also recently unveiled inside the comic book store in November, 2020 by local artist Michael Alexi which features various comic book legends from both DC Comics and Marvel Comics. The mural measures an astonishing 28-feet-long & 4-feet-tall and took Alexi a full year to complete.
