"Justice League" Photo of Henry Cavill with Infamous Mustache Emerges

by Neil Cole

A new photo from "Justice League" has been found which features actor Henry Cavill as Superman still sporting his infamous mustache which was ultimately digitally removed in post-production.

Cavill had grown the mustache for his role as CIA agent August Walker in "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" and, at the insistence of Paramont Pictures, was not allowed to shave it off when he had to return for extensive "Justice League" reshoots in the middle of production on Fallout.

The mustached Man of Steel photo of Cavill is not an April Fools Day joke and is featured on the SoundBetter.com profile page of Chris Jenkins who served as the re-recording mixer on "Justice League".

The photo was first discovered by Reel Anarchy and is featured on a screen in the editing booth where the audio for the film was being finalized. Cavill can clearly be seen with a mustache and light stubble as well as indicator dots pinpointing the facial hair that would eventually be digitally removed.

The reshoots created an extremely tight deadline and challenge for the "Justice League" visual effects team to not only remove Cavill's facial hair, but also digitally recreate portions of his face. The end result was far from perfect and, as viewers could see from the opening shot of the film, left Cavill's Superman with a very odd looking upper lip and chin.

However, if not for all the news reports concerning the infamous mustache prior to the theatrical release of "Justice League", the CGI work on Cavill's face may not have been as harshly criticized or even noticed for that matter.
