Christopher Dennis who was well known for his portrayal of Superman on Hollywood Boulevard has died at the age of 52.
The Super Museum in Metropolis, Illinois recently confirmed the news in a Facebook post which reads in part, "We want to take a moment to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Christopher Dennis better known as 'Hollywood Superman.' We've just received word of his passing."
"We've known Chris for many years," the post continues. "Many years ago he married the love of his life here in Metropolis in front of the Superman statue. He spent time with our family and showed lots of support for our museum and the Superman Celebration."
In an interview with "The Guardian" in 2017, Dennis stated that he was inspired to become Hollywood's Superman after being told many times that he resembled Superman actor Christopher Reeve. He put together his costume and took on the role for nearly 30 years which would also lead to appearances on "The Daily Show" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".
In 2007, Dennis was featured in the documentary film "Confessions of a Superhero" which chronicles the lives of four aspiring actors who work as superhero character performers on Hollywood Boulevard. He also appeared in the 2008 documentary film "The Reinactors" and the 2013 musical short "30 Seconds to Mars: City of Angels".
Following an assault in 2016 which rendered him homeless and his Superman costume being destroyed, Dennis started a fundraiser campaign which resulted in him being able to get back on his feet and acquire a new costume so he could return to Hollywood Boulevard as the Man of Steel once again.
Dennis passed away in the San Fernando Valley on Saturday, November 2nd. The Superman Super Site extends our deepest heartfelt condolences to Dennis's family and loved ones during this difficult time of mourning.
