Actresses Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly are currently in the running to portray the next big screen version of Supergirl in both "Superman: Legacy" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow".
According to The Hollywood Reporter, their insider resources state that both actress recently screen tested for the role of the iconic DC Comics superheroine in Atlanta, GA with DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran present.
Alcock is best known for her role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO series "House of the Dragon" while Donnelly has starred in the Disney Channel's hit musical franchise "Zombies" and has voiced the role of Kara Zor-El / Supergirl in the animated films "Legion of Super-Heroes" and "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One". At one time, actresses Cailee Spaeny ("Priscilla") and Emilia Jones ("CODA") were reportedly being considered for the role.
"Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl, in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton," stated Gunn in January, 2023. "She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character."
Supergirl was most recently portrayed on the big screen by actress Sasha Calle in "The Flash" and by actress Melissa Benoist on the hit CW television series, "Supergirl". In the 1984 film "Supergirl The Movie", the character was played by actress Helen Slater and would not be featured in live media again until her appearance in the "Smallville" television series where she was portrayed by actress Laura Vandervoort.
While pre-production is currently in full swing on "Superman: Legacy", no director is currently attached to "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" but a script is being written by actress and playwright Ana Nogueira.
