A restored copy of Action Comics #1 has sold for $300,000 at Heritage Auctions' near-sellout Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction which recently took place November 18th - 21st, 2021.
The rare comic featuring the first appearance of Superman had a CGC grade of 6.5 with slightly brittle pages. Restoration included a small amount of color touch on the cover, pieces added to cover & interior, tear seals to cover & interior, a spine split sealed, cover & interior reinforced, and the cover cleaned.
This copy was from the historic Promise Collection which earned its moniker because the young boy who assembled the collection went off to war and never returned. For decades, the books were kept safe by his brother, who promised to protect the collection if anything happened to his brother on the battlefield.
