"Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story" recently won the award for Best Documentary at the Advanced Imaging Society Lumiere Awards which recognizes outstanding international achievement in the creation of immersive storytelling using advanced visual technologies like Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, High Dynamic Range, Stereo 3D, 360 Video, High Frame Rate, Artificial Intelligence, Real-Time Rendering and more.
Directed by Ian Bonhóte and Peter Ettedgui, the documentary follows Reeve's astonishing rise from unknown actor to iconic movie star, and his definitive portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the benchmark for the superhero cinematic universes that dominate cinema today. Following a near-fatal horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down, Reeve became a charismatic leader and activist in the quest to find a cure for spinal cord injuries, as well as a passionate advocate for disability rights and care - all while continuing his career in cinema in front of and behind the camera and dedicating himself to his beloved family.
The Lumiere Awards were originally scheduled to be celebrated at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Friday, February 7th, 2025. However, once it became clear that the devastating Los Angeles fires were affecting not only the AIS community, but impacting so many in Southern California, the decision was made to announce and deliver the awards directly to the honorees, and to forgo the luncheon celebration.
