The gift shop of the world famous Superman Museum in Metropolis, IL recently reopened after undergoing a major renovation project which took place over the past 40 days.
"After 28 years we thought it was time," stated Museum Curator Morgan Hambrick. "We wanted to give our fans a opportunity to experience a Superman Museum in a new way. Brighter, wider aisles, easier access, and a more exciting entry way."
Along with Hambrick's husband Adam and the help of many friends, the museum underwent various construction projects included tearing out & replacing the old ceiling along with new insulation, all new electrical wiring & fixtures, and new flooring which mimics the look of real hardwood.
In addition to the construction updates, a few new photo-op displays are now featured throughout the gift shop including a former Warner Bros. store display of Superman bursting through the wall and a life-sized statue of the Man of Steel striking his iconic pose which was recently reacquired by the museum after 10 years.
Future plans for the Superman Museum include updates to the Christopher Reeve section of the museum with the addition of new lighting & display cases and a new section featuring items from the 2006 film "Hollywoodland" which starred actor Ben Affleck in the role of "Adventures of Superman" star George Reeves.
The museum currently features 70,000+ items from the life's work of longtime Superman enthusiast and collector, Jim Hambrick who has amassed one of the greatest collections of Superman memorabilia in the world including movie props and promotional materials from all the Superman movies & TV series (including "Smallville" and "Man of Steel") and one of the only George Reeves Superman costumes still in existence.
The Superman Museum is open daily and admission is only $8.00 per person. If you ever have the oportunity to travel to Superman's official hometown of Metropolis, IL, the staff invites you to stop by for some Superfun for the entire family!
