Superman Takes Flight in Latest TV Spot Entitled "Icon"

Warner Bros. and DC Studios have released a new TV spot for "Superman" entitled "Icon." The 30-second teaser, which first dropped to the "DC Studios Fan First" mailing list, will officially debut later today across DC's social media channels. The timing of the commercial suggests it may also air during NFC and AFC Championship games later today, although that remains speculative.

While the bulk of the footage in "Icon" has already been seen in the previous "Superman" trailer, there are a couple of standout new shots that have fans buzzing. The first features the infamous Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, as he disembarks from a helicopter in a snow-covered wilderness. The scene hints at Luthor's potential quest to track down the Fortress of Solitude, setting up a thrilling pursuit that could be a key plot point. The second new shot features Superman, portrayed by David Corenswet, soaring through the snowy landscape with a determined and optimistic look on his face, flying directly toward the camera. It's a short but powerful image that reinforces the character's enduring sense of hope.

The official synopsis for the film reads, "James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who's driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind."

Previously know as "Superman: Legacy", the film stars Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Hoult as Lex Luthor, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent.

"Superman" is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
