"Superman: The Movie" Props Available at Auction

An assortment of movie memorabilia from various Superman films is heading to auction as part of Heritage Auctions' "Treasures from Planet Hollywood Signature Auction" which takes place March 20th - 24th, 2024.
Among the items featured are a Christopher Reeve "Superman" Articulating Special Effects Miniature and a "Kal-El" Crystalline Kryptonian Starship Miniature which were both used extensively in "Superman: The Movie".

The Christopher Reeve "Superman" Articulating Special Effects Miniature: Vintage original special effects miniature from the original Superman film, measuring 62" x 15" x 9" is expertly painted to resemble Christopher Reeve with fiberglass body, movable limbs and head attached through sockets, plus a metal internal framework for electronic functions to animate the cape (cape not included). Miniature wears a blue spandex bodysuit, equipped with Velcro panels on the back for accessing animatronics, and is adorned with the iconic red and yellow "S" emblem on the chest, including red spandex briefs with belt loops, red leather boots with Velcro closures, and yellow vinyl belt with hook and eye fastenings at rear. Used in flight sequences throughout the film where miniatures were opted in favor of rigging performers for Zoran Perisic's groundbreaking "Zoptic" process of rear projection in conjunction with dual zoom lenses. Exhibits general production age and wear with scuffing to the painted finish, degradation to the armature, and discoloration to the spandex and leather components. Electronics have been untested. "Kal-El" Crystalline Kryptonian Starship Miniature: Vintage original miniature prop spaceship constructed of radiating acrylic spikes emanating from a central hub. Retaining 12-larger "crystals" (some retaining metal rod reinforcement) etched with reflective tape inserts, with numerous smaller acrylic spikes and rods with a mass of "downy" fiberglass at the center. A thin, hollow metal tube extends across the ship. A metal pipe with wooden base has been added for display. Visible escaping the dying planet of Krypton, carrying a baby Kal-El off to Earth. Measures approx. 38" x 26" x 22". Exhibiting age and handling as well as some material loss and sensitive restoration. Obtained from Pinewood Studios. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
