Superman Themed Water Splash Park Opening in Metropolis, IL

Visitors to Superman's official hometown of Metropolis, Illinois will soon have a new attraction to visit when the city opens a new Superman Themed Splash Park adjacent to the City of Metropolis Public Swimming Pool at 312 West Fourth Street.

The splash park will feature various Superman themed elements including Kryptonite water sprayers, a Daily Planet Globe water bucket drop, a Kryptonite water slide, an interactive city skyline water sprayer that makes sounds, and a Superman "Welcome to Metropolis" sign welcoming visitors to the park.

According to Metropolis Parks and Recreation Director, Pris Abell, the splash park is currently scheduled to open in time for the summer swim season with construction currently focusing on the splash pad, a new pump house for the splash park pump system, and resurfacing of the pool.

Special thanks are given to the combined efforts of Mayor Billy McDaniel and City Council, City Attorney Rick Abell, former chief financial officer Patricia Suttles, HMG Engineering, Bill Knowles, Chad Vance, bookkeeper Linda Smith, and Pris Abell for bringing this project together.

Stay tuned for more updates on the splash park once everything has been installed and be sure to follow the Metropolis City Pool for updates on the opening.

Thank you to Super Museum curators Adam Siebert and Morgan Hambrick for this story and photos.
