The CW has unveiled an official first look at Tyler Hoechlin's new Superman costume which the actor will wear in the upcoming "Superman & Lois" television series alongside actress Elizabeth "Bitsie" Tulloch as Lois Lane.
"I find that the new suit is representative of the show," stated Hoechlin in a statement. "Just as this suit is unique and set apart from the ones that preceded it, the story we're telling about Clark/Superman at this point in his life is unique and something we've never seen before. I appreciate the opportunity to wear the suit and the responsibility that comes with it."
The suit was designed by Laura Jean Shannon ("Titans," "Black Lightning") and is an update to the one Hoechlin wore throughout various guest-appearances on "Supergirl" and in the Arrowverse crossover events including "Elseworlds" and "Crisis on Infinite Earths".
"It's always interesting when I'm asked how I feel about 'my new suit,' because I've always felt that the suit doesn't belong to me," added Hoechlin. "It belongs to everyone that finds some kind of meaning in that suit, in the symbol on the chest. I just happen to be the one wearing it. I come from the world of baseball and a line of coaches that always preached that the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the one on the back. Because when you wear that jersey, it represents not only you, but your entire team, and everyone that has ever worn that jersey that came before you. So when I wear the suit, that's what it means to me. It represents everything that Superman stands for and has stood for, for almost a century now. And I look forward to carrying on that tradition."
"Superman & Lois" will revolve around the Kents returning to Smallville to handle some family business while also dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society.
Starring alongside Hoechlin as Superman/Clark Kent and Tulloch as Lois Lane will be Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent, Alexander Garfin as Jordan Kent, Dylan Walsh as General Samuel Lane, Emmanuelle Chiriqui as Lana Lang-Cushing, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Wole Parks as The Stranger, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing, and Sofia Hasmik as Chrissy Beppo.
Based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, "Superman & Lois" is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing ("The Flash") and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. The series is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The series is scheduled to premiere at 9:00PM (EST) on The CW on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021.
