Former "Smallville" star Tom Welling has officially revealed that he and co-star Michael Rosenbaum are currently at work on an animated continuation of the hit CW television series.
"Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life, and use as many of the original cast members as possible," stated Welling in a Cameo message. "Don't tell anybody, though. It's a secret, we're still working on it."
While Welling and Rosenbaum will almost certainly reprise their respective roles as Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, it remains to be seen if other series stars such as Erica Durance (Lois Lane), Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent), Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang), or Laura Vandervoort (Kara) will return.
Welling and Durance previously reprised their "Smallville" roles as Clark and Lois in the 2019 Arrowverse crossover event, "Crisis on Infinite Earths" where it was revealed that Clark had given up his powers in order to live a normal life.
"Smallville" was developed by writer-producers Alfred Gough & Miles Millar and premiered in 2001 on The WB (now The CW), airing for 10 seasons before ending in 2011. However, the series would continue in comic book form for an 11th season in 2012.
