Actor Tony Todd who was best known for his title role in the "Candyman" film series and as the voice of Darkseid in a number of DC animated films has passed away at the age of 69.
Todd was born in Washington, D.C. on December 4, 1954 and grew up in Hartford, Connecticut. Following graduation, he would attend the University of Connecticut and go on to study theater at the Tony Award-winning Eugene O'Neill National Actors Theatre Institute and the Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island.
Todd would make his acting debut in "Platoon" (1986) as Sergeant Warren followed by the prominent role of Ben in the 1990 remake of "Night of the Living Dead". After starring in the role that would define his career as Daniel Robitaille / The Candyman, Todd would appear in such films as "The Crow" (1994), "The Rock" (1996), "Wishmaster" (1997), "Frankenstein" (2015), and as the voice of The Fallen in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (2009).
As the voice of Darkseid, Todd would star in such DC animated films as "Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League" (2015), "Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League - Attack of the Legion of Doom" (2015), "Reign of the Supermen" (2019), and "Justice League Dark: Apokolips War" (2020)
Todd passed away at his home in Marina del Rey, California, on November 6, 2024 and his death was announced posthumously on November 9th, 2024.
