Vintage Copy of Superman #1 Available at Auction
An original, vintage copy of "Superman No. 1" (CGC 3.0) will soon be available for proxy bidding as part of the Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction #7342 presented by Heritage Auctions.
Superman #1 (DC, 1939) CGC GD/VG 3.0 Off-white pages. It's ranked #3 on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list, and the venerable Guide can't seem to keep up with its actual value. Copies in all grades increasingly fetch record prices. Much of the allure is due to the rarity factor -- it's just not that easy finding complete, unrestored copies! In the past three years, we've offered a mere handful of higher-graded examples of this premiere issue that featured the origin of Superman and an iconic pin-up on the back cover. Co-creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster provided the story and art. CGC notes, "2 small pieces of tape on interior cover." Overstreet 2023 GD 2.0 value = $180,000; VG 4.0 value = $360,000. CGC census 9/23: 4 in 3.0, 23 higher.
