An original vintage copy of "Superman #1" (CGC 8.0) from 1939 is currently up for bids at the Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction #7339 hosted by Heritage Auctions who offers the following description:
One of the cleanest copies CGC has certified to date! Just one unrestored copy has earned a higher grade (barely, at 8.5), and there are just four restored copies with higher Apparent grades! We haven't seen a nicer-looking copy in nearly 12 years! And while it is a restored copy, it should be noted that the book has had no cleaning done to it, no pieces added, no trimming, and has white pages, a real rarity for a pre-1940s book! This copy sold in 2017 for $150,555, quite impressive for the day some six years ago! The issue is currently #3 on Overstreet's Top 100 Golden Age Comics list and distancing itself from #4 (Batman #1). The origin of Superman is told inside the issue featuring a Joe Shuster cover, story art, and a back cover pin-up. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: color touch, tear seals, spine splits sealed, reinforced."
The auction takes place March 30th - April 2nd and will rank among the auction house's most historic featuring such other high crade Golden Age books as 'Detective Comics No. 27', 'Marvel Comics No. 1' and a copy of 'Batman No. 1' never before seen at auction.
